Christopher

Even though I usually write dark and dangerous heroes, I have a sneaking fondness for blonds.  And men in wire-rimmed glasses.  And Guy Pearce when he isn’t being a cannibal.

So needless to say Guy, in his LA Confidential persona, was the perfect avatar for Christpher, my uptight mathematician hero.  I pictured him as a cross between Good Will Hunting and the Unabomber, though I’m pretty sure Lani and Jenny made me remove the Unabomber comment (didn’t want heroes connected to bombers).  He’s brilliant, shut off from his emotions, socially inept.  He doesn’t have Asperger’s Syndrome — he knows what the rules are.  He just decides to ignore them.

His parents died when he was young, and he was raised to by two brilliant scientists (who took him on because he was gifted) and in the years he was growing up they never once called him their son.  Picture a lonely, brilliant little boy, too much in his own brain, with a secret he doesn’t dare share.  And then picture him growing up to be Guy Pearce.

He thinks Abby is a flake.  A pretty, impractical flake who doesn’t understand common sense, numbers, or proper respect for a professor.

He also finds her irresistible.

IIt takes Abby’s irrepressible nature, not to mention her cookies, to get past Christopher’s reticence.  And once his grumpy reserve starts to break down he’s lost, ready for the happy ending he thought thought he’d have.

I love the idea of the lonely little genius, the lonely big genius who doesn’t know how to connect, the uber-civilized man who discovers he can be totally passionate and irrational.  Abby and the crazy world at the coffeehouse are just what Christopher needs to learn how to embrace all of life, not just numbers.

I love reading straight-laced, repressed men being messed up by gorgeous scatty women.

Not a huge Guy gal which is probably a hanging offence in my neck of the world but he does have talent.
And yeh, wire-rimmed glasses are tres tres sexy.

DUG: Not the biggest fan of guy either, though Christopher sounds hot.

Actually, I really appreciate the Good Will Hunting/Unabomber image. But yeah, wouldn’t market with it. :)

What? An Aussie who doesn’t like Guy? Well, there’s still Russell, Simon, and tons others. You grow ‘em hot down there.

You cast Guy Pierce… you are forever my hero. Has anyone seen him in The Count of Monte Cristo? He played a really evil man but his acting was just so profound - sigh - then throw in some scruffiness and I’m a goner. I’m loving these get-to-know-you sessions with each of the characters!

You know, Christopher reminds me a tiny bit of Darcy (pride and prejudice). He doesn’t have a big estate, but he’s got the Lordship of the Mind thing down pat, and he’s contemptuous of Abby, I think, for not being the genius. But he loves her anyway (-:.

I was wondering about the Aspberger’s; glad I came here!
