2007 Ugly Dog Contest
Carla told us about this CNN gallery of this year’s ugliest dog contest. If I could figure out how to link to a gallery, I would, but you’ll just have to go to CNN.com and search for “These Dogs Are Ugly!” (Genius headline, eh?) CNN said, “Most of the entrants were Chinese Crested, a breed that features a Mohawk, bug eyes and a long tongue.”
I object to the “bug eyes” bit the rest is right.

And there’s a lot of Bun in that woman, who amazingly is not the same blonde kissing the dog in the first picture.
What I love about these pictures is that all of these dogs are getting cuddled. Ugly is as ugly does, baby, these dogs are beauties.
Of course, it is a competition:
Some day I must own a Chinese Crested.
The winner, BTW, was so scary I couldn’t post him here. And at the end of the gallery was a memorial shot of Sam–you remember Sam–who won in 2003, 2004, and 2005, and then died. It was really touching. He’s chewing on his own leg. It’ll give you nightmares for weeks.

So, are their tongues just permanently stuck out of their mouths like that? Are ALL Chinese Cresteds like that, or just the ugly ones? Or are they ALL ugly? I am afraid to go to the gallery. Very, very afraid.
It may just be my dirty mind, but does anybody else see large penis looking thing between the two dogs in the pic labelled, “Of course, it is a competition”?
Those last two are very glam rock, aren’t they? Duran Duran or something.

Definitely Duran Duran, circa 1985. Or, they could be back-up singers for Prince. Or, dare I say it, they could be Nicole Richie and Paris Hilton in dog form. Now that’s what I call scary.

Even Wolfie is less ugly than these dogs. Wolfie is downright handsome in comparison to these dogs.
The gold standard for CC’s is quite cute. I’m surprised.
But I still don’t think I’m going to own one. Partly because I would worry about killing it living in the Northern part of the continent.

I just love the way they look in general.
You guys must corrovorate the origin of this kind of dogs…. are Peruvian you go and see all the document of the BC empires of Peru like Chavin culture , Chan Chan culture , Chimu culture art jarafs of those cultures …. but as peruvians we call them perro chino (chinese dog ) only for the eyes (spaniards nik-named like that ) lol
