Who’s Who in Summerville

We need pictures as placeholders for all our people because while we each see our own characters clearly, it’s really important that we see each others’, too. So we spent some time on Google images, and put together a cast portrait using Curio. If you know the two teenagers who are Bun and Gen, don’t tell them we’re using their faces for inspiration. We love their faces but they’re, you know, the Gigglements.

D&G People

The top row is the characters in the order they appear in the bas relief.

The second row is their dogs.

The third row is their men and the supporting characters in their stories.

We’re pretty sure this is everybody who matters. Kind of.

Um. Did you notice that 15 of the 26 names in that collage end in an “ee” sound? Abby, Beastie, Daisy, Bailey, Jamie, Gracie, Kami, Wolfie…

Well, we tend to have adorable characters who need an ee at the end of their name.

Plus there’s a lot of screaming in there.
    So that’s 60%?
Whereas 100% of the partnership–Krissie, Lani, and Jenny–end in ee.
It’s just a common ending for names, especially female names and diminutives for pets. Seven of them are pet names. Wolfie’s real name is Wolfgang, if that helps.

Wow, Russell Crowe as a placeholder for Sumu-la-el. That’s a nice image to have in my head. I’m starting to come around on the beard thing.

Okay - know everyone else but who is Shar? Looks like Selma with glasses.
Love knowing who the characters look like in your collective heads.

    I love Tina Fey.

Wow! That is a great visual. Thanks for taking the time to do that and sharing it. Maybe it’s because I haven’t read the book that is not yet fully written, but usually when authors tell me who they pictured for their character I try to run and hide because I don’t see it. But this time I nailed Mina in one thought. I think I got chaos Daisy in my head first because I’d actually pictured who you have as Gracie, but now that I think about it, Daisy is more contained at the start. I think Tina Fey makes a wonderful Shar (who I didn’t have a good mental image of yet). Who is Sam here? And great job on the “c” curls on Sumu-la-el’s forehead. Tough, tough job, correllating those. Maybe you should just turn this into a screenplay and send it to Tina Fey…

Tina Fey is excellent as Shar, and the Mina picture is terrific.

I know this is off-topic, but CNN.com today (6/23/07) has a gallery of photos from the Ugliest Dog contest at the Sonoma-Marin County Fair. Elwood, the winner, looks like a lab accident. I’d love to have him as my guard dog. That dog’s so ugly, he could scare away bacteria.

Back from google - 30 Rock. Still none the wiser. Dont have it here - yet. BUT I think Fey is a great surname to attach to this book. Kind of supernatural.
