May 6: Part 5, Powers and People
Jenny C. At this point, Shar’s going to be looking for things to finish.
Anne S. Do they know their powers?
Jenny C. And not understanding why.
Lani D. They’ve been resisting them.
Jenny C. No, Shar finds out before class the next day. Thursday
Lani D. Repressing them.
Jenny C. Chapter Three is mostly Wednesday.
Anne S. Or it instinctive.
Jenny C. They’ve been chugging Kami juice and they’re starting to feel their powers.
Jenny C. And hear the dogs.
Jenny C. Plus, Shar has to deal with the fact that a god rose in her bedroom.
Jenny C. I’m not sure how soon she’s going to share that.
Jenny C. Probably on Thursday with the rest of the good news.
Lani D. Well, that’s something you’d wait on. I think.
Lani D. Would they ask each other about hearing the dogs on Wednesday? Because they’re all kind of bearing their own burdens at that point.
Jenny C. By the time she’s telling them they’re descended from priestesses, Sam is going to be just one more talking dog.
Lani D. Oh - and Krissie - how does Abby react to hearing Matilda talk?
Jenny C. Couldn’t they hear each other’s dogs, too?
Lani D. Right.
Jenny C. It would be funny if they could hear them all but were pretending they couldn’t.
Anne S. She wouldn’t be freaked.
Lani D. Yeah, but they still might think it’s just them.
Jenny C. And then they realize they can all hear all of them.
Anne S. I think she’d be surprised but accepting.
Anne S. Because she’s so quirky.
Lani D. I think maybe they shouldn’t share until Shar calls them over, tells them they’re priestesses, and they go, “Oh, thank God.”
Jenny C. And that’s when they sit down with a tray full of pastry and just go for it.
Anne S. Life is full of strange things and if Abby’s dog talks to her, cool.
Jenny C. That’s good, too.
Lani D. Krissie - I like that. It’s a nice contrast to what Daisy will be doing.
Jenny C. Shar’s not that accepting.
Jenny C. She screams.
Anne S. Abby’s a laid-back, sensual creature. She goes with the flow.
Lani D. I love that. It’s such a great contrast.
Lani D. Funny how Abby and Jamie are alike, and Christopher and Shar are alike.
Jenny C. And Sam and Daisy?
Lani D. Sam and Daisy not so much, but you can take parallels too far…
Jenny C. Sam would like Daisy though.
Anne S. Well, it only makes sense. Your lovers need to be antagonists.
Lani D. I think they’d like each other, yeah.
Jenny C. He’s a king and a warrior, he’d appreciate a woman who could plan.
Lani D. LOL
Anne S. So if we have three different character types they’re bound to cross over.
Lani D. And she’d appreciate his dedication.
Jenny C. I can’t wait to meet Abby.
Lani D. I love her already.
Lani D. I think the readers are going to freakin’ adore her.
Anne S. Abby is very cool.
Jenny C. I like it that Shar hangs back.
Jenny C. It’s nice that they’re splitting up that way.
Jenny C. Daisy is impetuous and Shar hangs back.
Jenny C. Shar’s cautious.
Jenny C. And never finishes anything.
Anne S. And Abby just strolls through life.
Lani D. Oh, right. I don’t think there’s any problem. I like those similarities. Something about it just feels right.
Jenny C. And Sam slays demons.
Lani D. Maybe Shar helps Abby understand Christopher.
Lani D. Abby helps Daisy understand Jamie.
Lani D. And somehow Daisy gets insight into Sam.
Jenny C. That’s nice.
Jenny C. Well, there’s not a lot of depth to Sam.
Jenny C. But he does give up other women
Jenny C. For the two weeks he thinks he’s got left to live.
Lani D. Which is a big deal. When two weeks is all you’ve got, it’s forever.
Lani D. And it’s hard to change; I think Daisy would respect that.
Anne S. And Abby understands Christopher — she just thinks he’s an asshole.
Lani D. Especially considering how hard it is for her to change.
Jenny C. Then it turns out he’s not going to die and he has to stay faithful anyway, he gave his word.
Anne S. Is he going to be pissed?
Lani D. He’s going to want to stay faithful, though.
Jenny C. Good thing Shar has a GHH.
Anne S. Oh, ok.
Anne S. GHH?
Lani D. The GHH saves you every time…
Jenny C. Glittery Hoo Ha.
Lani D. Well, Sam’s promised her forever. He wants her forever. Two weeks, forty years, he’s in when he makes that promise.
Anne S. ?
Jenny C. Lani did a post about it on my blog. I’ll send you the link.
Anne S. Good.
Lani D. It’s my stab at being academic.
Lani D.
Jenny C. Yeah, poor Sam, he’s going to end up with a station wagon full of dogs.
Jenny C. I’ll send you the link, Krissie. You’ll love it. Abby has a GHH, too, that’s why Christopher must succumb.
Anne S. Is he going to be a house-god?
Lani D. A stay at home god?
Jenny C. Haven’t gotten that far yet.
Jenny C. I think he’ll be very successful at something.
Anne S. Well, he’s not used to doing much more than be decorative and then get killed.
Jenny C. No, no, he’s a king.
Lani D. He could be a Chippendales stripper!
Lani D. Kidding.
Jenny C. Leads his men into battles.
Jenny C. Slays demons.
Jenny C. Rules people.
Lani D. Football coach?
Jenny C. Of course, not much call for that these days.
Jenny C. Maybe congressman.
Jenny C. They like ‘em big and pretty.
Anne S. Well, it would tie in with Dog.
Jenny C. Dog.
Jenny C. Dog and Bun.
Jenny C. Gen and Bun don’t change.
Jenny C. They’re impervious.
Lani D. No they can’t. They’re perfect as is.
Jenny C. Dog’s probably like them.
Jenny C. I mean, there’s no arc.
Lani D. Right.
Jenny C. We’ll just have to wait and see what happens with Mina.
Jenny C. Where does Jamie end up?
Jenny C. I mean, besides with Daisy. She doesn’t have a job
Jenny C. he doesn’t have a job
Lani D. Working at the Jeff for Gracie.
Jenny C. And Daisy?
Lani D. Maybe Gracie retires, hires them both to run it.
Anne S. They could start a kennel/dog grooming business.
Jenny C. Bleah.
Jenny C. I like Daisy and Jamie selling Abby’s baked goods.
Jenny C. Sam’s the bouncer.
Lani D. Heh heh. He’d be good at that.
Jenny C. And Shar takes notes.
