Bikki and Ummi
Kammani has two sacred Mesopotamian Temple Dogs that look like nothing on God’s green earth. You’d think that would have made things difficut, but we found them on the internet (they’re really Chinese Cresteds). Apologizing in advance if these are your dogs.
The one on the left is Ummi (Ummi-waqrat), a thoughtful and intelligent dog, wise beyond her years, which means something when you’re over four thousand years old.
The one on the right is Bikki (Bikku-lum), the Paris Hilton of Mesopotamian canines. She’s pretty.
And yes, those are real names from ancient Mesopotamia. Because our motto here at Dogs and Goddesses is We Do Our Research. Okay, not really, but we actually did research that.

Okay. I love these dogs. Just looking at them makes me happy inside. And I know that, someday, if you guys are really really good and eat all your veggies, Jenny will post the pic of Bikki strung out on Cheetos.
After brushing enough hair off my cat to line an eagle’s nest, my next animal is going to be hairless. Just saying.
Bikki develops a terrible addiction to Cheetos and loses all sense of dignity. And we have the picture to prove it.
But bask in her glory now. She’s so pretty. Don’t ask her to balance her checkbook because Math is Hard, but look at that face.
Ummi, on the other hand, could topple nations.
You know… Ummi’s face is kinda giraffe-ish… or even horse-ish…
No! I have it!
Her face reminds me of those ‘My Little Pony’ toys that one of my friends had when I was a kid!
Except the ears.
And the fluff.
I love them - fantastic find. I can’t wait to read more!
Will these be, like, on the cover?
they are so cute. similiar color to my dog Cookie (looks absolutely nothing like her though)
though now i keep picturing a Little Pony because of Erica.
We don’t even have a contract, so we’re not worried about the cover.
But you can bet good cash money they’ll show up in the header sometime.
I had lettuce at breakfast. Can we please see Bikki on Cheetos?
Those dogs — I dunno. You might start a trend.
For some strange reason, they remind me of llamas. Very wise-looking creatures, llamas. And Chinese cresteds, too.
Chinese Crested are one of my favorite breeds. I keep trying to picture one within our household, and get the feeling the poor thing would be in hiding afraid to be trampled on by wabbler the alpha cat who thinks that includes bossing everyone who breaths!
it would be under he bed city for that pup. but I would be there too, to keep it company. he bosses me around too.
OMG - don’t those poor doggies get cold? Or did Mesopotamians carry them around in their handbags too?
Chinese Cresteds are great dogs. We had a hairless one at the shelter for months, we were all totally in love. She was never interested in walking anywhere, she would dance around you on her hind legs until you melted and picked her up for some cuddling.
Oh, my God. A friend of mine rescued a half Springer Spaniel, half Chinese Crested. He looks just like the picture, only bigger. He dances around on his back legs constantly. We call him the Naked Wonder. We’re in CT, so he has a huge wardrobe of sweaters, etc. Also summer tee’s so he doesn’t burn. (This is the same friend whose Sheltie wouldn’t enter my haunted kitchen.) She has to rub lotion on him regularly or he gets–ewwww—scaly.
Chinese crested are one of my fave dogs (the other is a corgi). My friend has a couple CC’s and I adore them. (DUG: my friend has tiny little hoodies for them to keep them warm. Plus they need sunscreen.) I so want one (black & white hair) if only I were home enough and didn’t live in a 2nd-floor condo. So i have cats instead. Long live Bikki and Ummi!
Mesopotamian Temple Dogs pretty much stayed in the Temple. So no outfits or sunscreen. Plus it was four thousand years ago when we still had an ozone layer.
Chinese Cresteds are, of course, an ENTIRELY different dog. (I want two.)
This is fiction, folks. You parked your reality at the last screen you were on before you hit the link for Dogs and Goddesses.
Well those look like temple dogs if ever I saw one. Cheetos, huh? The crunchy kind? They are kind of addictive. But think of the paw prints she’s going to leave all over!
Great choices–they are definitely different looking! I can already hear their voices…
Waaah! Why can’t I see the pic??? I clicked the link and got an error message. *sob*
Got ‘em. I clicked every link I could find to this particular post and they finally showed up. They look like bald, freckled, sheep demons. ;+)))) Who could imagine that they wouldn’t talk?
Do we get a picture book? I would be great to have pictures of all the dogs. Well, it would be great for me. Maybe that’s what the blog is for? But as long as the book is a publishing crapshoot anyway, lets also give it some pictures!
hee hee. still make me smile
Oh, you know, if it’s a fun book, pictures at the heading of each chapter would be a dream to dream pretty seriously about.
If you need previous examples of illustrated adult books (blush — no, I’m not talking about THAT), Mercedes Lackey did a few and her husband Larry Dixon illustrated — he may have been co-writer on those, too.
SInce we snagged all of these pix off the internet except for the ones of Bailey and Wolfie, we don’t have the rights to any of them.
So sad.
Still you get to look at them here.
y can’t i see the pic!
ZaZa… how did u find it? wat links?
P3 - I’m not sure why you can’t see the pics, they’re showing up for me. Of course, I just found your post in the spam folder, and you probably won’t be back (my apologies) but if you do, it could be your browser - let us know what you’re operating system and browser are, and maybe we can help.
